ROTARACT CLUB
For news of our current events and activities take a look at our monthly newsletter
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and are sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. As one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest-growing service programs, with more than 7,000 clubs in about 163 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.
How does it work? All Rotaract efforts begin at the local, grassroots level, with members addressing their communities’ physical and social needs while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service. http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYouth/YouthPrograms /Rotaract/Pages/ridefault.aspx
Pretoria East Rotaract Club
January 2009
The Rotary Club of Pretoria East is proud to announce the induction of the Rotaract Club of Pretoria East. The Charter Dinner was held at Geet Restaurant on 7 January 2008. This Rotary-sponsored, community based club for young people between the ages of 18 and 30 has already demonstrated that it is a true partner in service and a key member of the family of Rotary. Even before the Club was formally chartered, its members organized a gala fundraising event in aid of child welfare which raised in excess of R40000, and many projects are currently in the process of being planned, promoted, and implemented.
As one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest-growing service programs, with more than 7,000 clubs in about 163 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon. In its vitality, diversity, and exuberant energy, the Rotaract Club of Pretoria East embodies the aspirations of the Rotaract phenomenon and exemplifies the scope and ethos of an organization dedicated to the ideal of service above self. Not only is it guided by an ennobling vision of participatory action and reciprocal interchange at the local, grassroots level, with members addressing their communities’ physical and social needs while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service, but its diverse membership – ranging from postgraduate students in science, technology, and politics , to tomorrow’s leaders in commerce and industry – attests to the expansive appeal and universal mission of Rotary.
From left to right it is Deepti Bhurra (Rotaract Treasurer) Marius Redelinghuys (Rotaract President) Karin Marais (Rotary President) Steven Hussey (Rotaract Secretary) and Shalini Sivlal (Rotaract Vice-President).
